Zohran Mamdani vows to keep NYC a sanctuary city just days after rosy 1-on-1 with Trump

Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani vowed to maintain New York City’s sanctuary city status during a defiant speech Sunday — just two days after he and President Trump had an apparently rosy sit down in the Oval Office.

Mamdani made the promise while speaking at the Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church in the Bronx, where he said his vision for the city’s migrants was undeterred by Trump’s past threats to sic ICE and the National Guard on the Big Apple.

“I’ll let the president speak for himself, but I did make very clear that our focus comes back to public safety, delivering for each and every New Yorker and knowing that there may be disagreements between the president and myself, and there will continue to be,” Mamdani said. “And I will always make the case for each and every person that calls this city home.”

The future Hizzoner met with Trump at the White House on Friday in what was feared to be a tense showdown between the leaders on the polar opposite sides of the political spectrum.

But it turned out to be a friendly affair that saw the two hitting it off in front of shocked reporters, with Trump even joking that it was okay for Mamdani to call him a fascist when pressed on such past comments.

The president even walked back his threats to send the National Guard to New York City if Mamdani won, saying he expects “to be helping him, not hurting him.”

How that will actually play out — especially with Mamdani already doubling down on immigration policies that Trump won the White House campaigning against — remains to be seen.

But the pair seem to have found common ground for now over making Gotham affordable for New Yorkers, and Mamdani reiterated Sunday that he wanted to work with the president where he could to fulfill that vision for the city.

“I think the responsibility I have as the mayor of this city is to work with anyone who can help to alleviate the affordability crisis and deliver dignity to each and every person that calls the city home,” Mamdani said.

He and Trump talked about housing, public transit, childcare and zoning laws, the democratic socialist added.

“At the heart of it, again and again, came back to the recognition that what New Yorkers are desperate for, no matter at what level of politics they’re thinking about, is some relief from a cost of living crisis,” he said.

“I think it was New Yorkers that won in this conversation.”

Trump vows to designate Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization

WASHINGTON — President Trump on Sunday revealed his plans to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization amid recent revelations about the Islamist group’s radicalism and growing influence in the West.

“It will be done in the strongest and most powerful terms,” Trump told Just the News. “Final documents are being drawn.”

The move comes on the heels of advocacy from think tanks and lawmakers in Congress.

Last week, Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott designated both the Muslim Brotherhood and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) as foreign terrorist organizations in the state.

The designation by the federal government seeks to cut off financing and any other means of support to the targeted group, among other things.

The Muslim Brotherhood, which was founded in Egypt in 1928, has been cited as having ties to numerous terrorist groups. Hamas, for example, billed itself as “one of the wings of the Muslim Brotherhood in Palestine” in its founding charter.

Just the News reported that there had been growing momentum within the Trump administration to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign terrorist organization, before the president revealed his plan to do.

A chilling analysis from the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy last week found that the Muslim Brotherhood is halfway through its plan to “transform Western society from within.”

“We are now 50 years into the Brotherhood’s 100-year plan to entrench themselves into key institutions in the United States and other Western societies to undermine and destroy our democracy,” ISGAP’s director, Dr. Charles Asher Small, said.

“This is not simply a political movement but a transnational ideological project that adapts itself to Western systems while working to undermine them.”

While there are different branches of the Muslim Brotherhood, the organization has generally championed strict Sharia law and pushed for a caliphate.

A caliphate is a government ruled by strict Islamic religious code, or Sharia law, under which women’s rights are typically severely restricted while extreme forms of punishment abound as its overseers crack down on personal freedoms.

“Globally, the Brotherhood is a gateway to terrorism, infusing members with the religious doctrines and hatred that justify violence,” according to a blistering October report on the Muslim Brotherhood by the conservative-leaning Foundation for Defense of Democracies think tank.

The FBI had multiple “missed opportunities” to stop Thomas Crooks before he tried to assassinate President Trump, a former assistant director at the Bureau has told The Post.

Last week, The Post reported on multiple extremist social media posts believed to be tied to Crooks, including numerous threats of political violence and a dramatic shift against Trump, after previously expressing his admiration for the Republican.

If even “half” of Trump’s would-be assassin’s extremist digital footprint turns out to be true, he should have been on the FBI’s radar long before the 20-year-old opened fired on the then-presumptive GOP presidential nominee during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, said Chris Swecker, a retired FBI assistant director.

“It’s clear that he was popping off on the social media sites and saying things that should have garnered attention,” Swecker, who served in the FBI for 24 years, said.

“That constitutes a miss on the part of the FBI,” he added, saying that the Bureau’s handling of the investigation earned a “a C- grade.”

Among the disturbing posts that were recently revealed, were comments on YouTube that included, “I always believed being patriotic was lining up a bunch of socialist Jews and blasting their useless brains out with an AR.”

He also wrote “KILL DEMOCRATS” and said that members of the “Squad” should suffer a “quick, painful death.”

He also commented: “The only way to fight the gov is with terrorism style attacks, sneak a bomb into an essential building and set it off before anyone sees you, track down any important people/politicians/military leaders etc and try to assassinate them.”

Swecker — who retired from the Bureau in 2006 — also claimed that the FBI under then-director Christopher Wray was desperate to pin Trump’s would-be assassin as a far-right lone gunman.

He said it seemed clear to him that when agents found evidence to the contrary, the Bureau “had its thumb on the scales” of the investigation.

This led to a lack of transparency in the investigation, which allowed conspiracy theories to spread and multiply, he said.

“A little bit of transparency goes a long way in these types of investigations,” said Swecker, who served as assistant director of the FBI for the Criminal Investigative Division from 2004 to 2006.

“There was a bias in the FBI towards right-wing extremists. And if there was a right-wing extremist ideology, that got surfaced real quick in any of these shootings. But if there was a left-wing extremist ideology driving it, it was glossed over,” Swecker said

He said that view was “shared by a lot of my colleagues” in the FBI.

Rubio, Witkoff scramble to get Ukraine peace plan back on track after blowback and claims it came from Russia

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Marco Rubio and special envoy Steve Witkoff scrambled Sunday to get the White House’s controversial 28-point Ukraine peace plan back on track after facing bipartisan criticisms that it was nothing more than a Russian “wishlist.”

Ahead of a key meeting in Geneva, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European allies raised major reservations about the proposal, which would force Kyiv to make massive territorial concessions.

Rubio, Witkoff, Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, Jared Kushner and several other US officials huddled in Geneva on Sunday with Ukraine’s delegation to go over the blueprint to end the war in what was reportedly a tense meeting at times. Ultimately, the US agreed to make changes to the plan.

“Both sides agreed the consultations were highly productive. The discussions showed meaningful progress toward aligning positions and identifying clear next steps,” the US and Ukraine said in a joint statement released by the White House after the meeting.

“They reaffirmed that any future agreement must fully uphold Ukraine’s sovereignty and deliver a sustainable and just peace. As a result of the discussions, the parties drafted an updated and refined peace framework,” the statement added.

Those comments echoed Rubio’s optimism earlier in the day.

“I’m not going to speculate,” Rubio told reporters on Sunday. “I feel very optimistic that we can get something done here.”

“Obviously, the Russians get a vote.”

Looming over the talks was mass confusion over the origins of the plan to end the bloody war in Ukraine — and reports that the Trump administration threatened to cut off aid if Kyiv didn’t accept.

On Saturday, Rubio attempted to allay concerns over the plan during a call with a bipartisan delegation of senators who attended the Halifax International Security Forum in Canada. Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD), who was on the call, said that Rubio told them, “It is not our recommendation, it is not our peace plan.”

Sen. Angus King (I-Maine), who was also on the call, indicated that Rubio suggested it was a “wishlist of the Russians.”

But both Rubio and the State Department quickly hit back, with the Secretary of State stating that the plan was “authored by the US.”

“It is based on input from the Russian side. But it is also based on previous and ongoing input from Ukraine,” Rubio added.
