 Typefaces you dislike?
#1
Gather 'round, everyone. Anyone here into typefaces (fonts)? Let's discuss/share our thoughts on typefaces we dislike. :P

There are plenty of fonts I dislike due to the fact that I've seen them used in bad application... a lot. The fonts I really don't like at the moment are Bleeding Cowboys, Papyrus and Comic Sans MS.

Bleeding Cowboys
Papyrus
Comic Sans

Bleeding Cowboys seems to be everyone's favorite font of the week. Recently, I've seen this font get used everywhere. This includes but isn't limited to fliers, rock bands (Burn Halo for example), books, magazines, website banners (lol rmxpuniverse ;)), forum avatars, forum signatures, comics, a t-shirt of a high school marching band, album artwork, commercials, a science(?) website, a cocktail menu, a wrestling pay-per-view(!!!) and CAMWHORE PICTURES. Seeing it used on anything they can think of by nearly everyone and their grandmother just grates on my nerves like a hit single being overplayed on TV and radio and it really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Bleeding Cowboys has lost it's appeal. It's a dang joke to me now. Sure, it was a good looking font, that's undeniable. But it's been abused to death. Just wait until Bleeding Cowboys gets it's own hate website dedicated to it like bancomicsans.com or a sightings blog like papyruswatch.com. :P
I'm kind of a hypocrite for writing this, aren't I?

Papyrus, the original Bleeding Cowboys. Overused to death. I feel pretty bad for Chris Costello (font creator). Papyrus Watch, Papyrus Sightings, Chris's blog entry on Papyrus, Interview with Chris about Papyrus on Iheartpapyrus.

Comic Sans MS... the context in which this font is used just rubs me the wrong way. I find the font to be totally okay and appropriate when it comes to being used for anything that's intended for younger audiences or anything that's coming from someone at an innocent age. When used outside of that context, it just screams "I can't be taken seriously". I know the creator (Vincent Connare) of the font didn't make this for general use and intended this for an application geared towards children.

Comic Sans in the news? That just hurts man. http://www.flickr.com/photos/joeclark/114831385/

Heeee, I think Bleeding Cowboys is nice. Using this font for a title screen or something would not be a bad idea at all IMO.

I don't really have any font I dislike, since I downloaded only those that I liked.
I'm using Ashley Script MT for most of my game pictures.

Well, I've always hated that stupid Curlz MT font. It makes anything look stupid. I like more fonts than I dislike. Segoe UI (only when at size 10 or 12 anything bigger or smaller and I don't like it) is my favorite. I'm using augie and Base6 in my game. I really like those. I just happened to stumble across augie, it had been on my desktop for months before I started my game and I completely forgot it was there.

I absolutely HATE comic sans.
And I have a grudge against fixedsys - did I spell that right. I actually really like fixedsys and things like it, Manaspace and so on, but fixedsys doesn't work with a lot of programs I use for reasons I'm not smart enough to understand.

Okay, Impact and Arial Black are starting to annoy me a bit. I'm seeing some of my personal friends using the Impact or Arial Black fonts as BODY TEXT!

It really depends where the font is used. Generally, if it's difficult to read it, I dislike it.

Content Hidden
Good fonts: Shiver, Spooky One, Spooky Font.
The other ones are just bad and hard to read. At this point it doesn't matter if it is for a title screen or not. If I can't read it, it just sucks.

When I'm using notepad I use courier new (lovely font), cause every character has the same width. But when I play a game and I see courier new, then I dislike it.

I find Courier New and Lucida Console to be a rather "boring" fonts when I see them anywhere except anything coding-related. :P

I like simple fonts tbh. But I also like them unique and slick. I like Calibri, Lucida Grande and Segoe UI the most for any body text.

I like Calibri, Segoe UI, Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, Times, Palatino Linotype, Garamond and Georgia for body text.

I hate how some people use Impact or Arial Black, fonts which are much better suited for headings as body text.

My hatred for Bleeding Cowboys has been reaffirmed. Thank you, Daughtry.
