For anyone who is interested. Unity 3D game engine is now free, this use to be a $300 indie game engine. Well still an indie game engine, but the owners werent seeing a profit so they decided to release it for free. Also, they will continue working on it and updating it.

UNITY Pro (Commercial license) is still $1500.00USD and there's a large difference between it's feature set and the free versions.
UNITY Pro

It's really quite nice and it doesn't really have a 'free edition' feeling although the pro version is more nice. The 100k$ is really high.
The UDK for example is free up to 5k$.
As for releasing it I think it's more a gamble of hoping to get a nice community up and running rather than lack of money. The fact that a significant amount of money was invested just before their announcement surely also have something to do with the matter.
I also think the documentation present for it is rather nice.
Have only spent a couple of hours, but it definitely gave a nice first impression.

Depends on what 3D application she's using. You'll find she's more of a 3D modeler than 3D Engine person. :p
