YouTube itself just about breaks even from advertising. YouTube partners get a share of that, I've seen some myself so I know it works.
I just checked my analytics and adsense account - lifetime: $191.07 with a little over 92k total views across all my videos. Current balance: £55.21 which means I'm less than £5 away from my next Google cheque! :D
