You can install Start8 and the start menu will be just like Win 7. Also Win 8.1 is better for gaming due to directx. As far as SSD goes they are way more reliable than before. Just put the OS on it with the apps you use the most and use the HHD for storage (videos, music, downloads,...) you'll notice a ridiculous improvement.
