OpenRPG Maker

that's all well and good, but I think that it should be there as it allows for those of us with the abilities to do so to expand on the existing engine in ways that you, the developer, may have not thought of. Meanwhile, you can look at what other people are doing with your engine, and if you see trends in areas that had not previously occurred to you, you can continue to expand the engine to take those features in account. Of course, you are the developer, and you are providing this tool for free ( afaik ), so you will develop it in any format that you see fit and rightfully so. I'm just happy that you chose such open standards that make it easy to re-purpose the game data towards other engines that may suit needs that your engine may not take in account, such as web platforms ( my personal favorite realm ), or mobile gaming.

That's basically what my plan was from the get go for the open-nes of it. I will develop the editor and a stand-alone engine for the PC and from there everything will be using an open standard format (that's why I chose xml for the data, simple, easy to read, and plain text). This way others can then port the engine over to any platform of their choosing. On top of that the engine will be licensed under the LGPL (or some derivative of it) so that comercial games can be made using Open RPG Maker, which further broadens it's uses from just plain hobyist development to full on comercial software. On a side note, the further I got into development the more overwhelmed I became at the shear amount of power and flexibility that I managed to give it all while retaining the simplistic feel and easy of use. As a matter of fact, I myself probably still don't know the full power of what I have created, since the possibilities are mind-bogglingly endless.

Aha, I'm back home and now I can finally check this out! I have yet to mess with the actual program, but just viewing the screen shots I can tell you that I'm fond of the fact that you've separated global, monster and character animations, plus your map settings are more diverse than what you'd find in an EB! product.

I went to register to your forums but never got a confirmation E-Mail (not even in the junk folder.) I'll try again tomorrow.

We (my son actually) are having trouble with the forum software. With the anti-spam stuff enabled, registration emails don't go out. With it disabled, the first posts are spam. I hope to look into it soon.

Wow, this looks pretty sweet. I would love to give this a test run when it gets going.
I would suggest you don't spend too much time worrying about the random generation side of things, as much as the engine because I'm sure that is what people would really like to see, but that's just my two cents.
Looking forward to hearing more about this.
If you need money you should turn this into a Kickstarter project. There's got to be people out there who would pay to see this come to fruition.

Ok, forum appears to be up (and I have been promoted to Forum Thug, er, Moderator).

:P Moderators aren't thugs unless they use their power for personal gain.
Congrats on getting the forum up and running! :)

Just changing this topic's name to "OpenRPG Maker'. Kinda helps since every new system out there could go by New RPG development tool and all. ;) Sending you two PMs just in case.
