The Weekly Gazette 09-12-2021 - Hack Edition

(September 6 to September 12, 2021)

Welcome dear readers to the latest issue of the Weekly Gazette! Here in the Gazette, we give you the news in brief of what occurred in the past week as well as provide any news happening in Save-Point itself

Official Area
Announcements and Updates

Early this week, the Board was hacked, and Kirito advised everyone to change their passwords. There's evidence that they dumped (or copied) the entire forum content, We're aware of the plugin that was vulnerable, but now all plugins have been removed and the forum appears barren of effects for and upcoming transfer to a newer forum software. Most of the images were restored, and DerVVulfman restored the spoiler system and added the Discord chat button to the forum menu. Along with that, DerVVulfman used mass mailing to contact all members to advise them of the breach. Current members like Holder, DoubleX, XP Kobold and Steel Beast 6Beets received the notifications, and members from the past like schM0ggi, MechanicalPen, Kahn01 and Landarma returned. As odd as it may sound, someone joined the discord who inferred he was the hacker, only for Remi-chan to toy with the poor miscreant, the mouse to the cat.

Feedback and Suggestions

According to lestat3179 who claims to be a former hacker who despises hackers, he received alerts from Google and Experian fom our forum hack. But while MetalRenard noted that the hack lasted but a couple hours, Kirito relayed that the passwords used a method that prevents decryption known as hashing. Such a method is extremely secure. Steel Beast 6Beets felt he dodged a massive bullet and Remi-chan had her own opinion on lestat3179's judgment of our password system.

Occasions

This week, Tei found a reason to abandon his lurker status and become a full-fledged member. Though that could have been under better circumstances as members like DerVVulfman and MetalRenard relayed. Still, he was appreciative of the fast response on the forum repair and mass eMailings, and the extensive archive when other RPGMaker sites have vanished.

Despite our recent hack, we get to celebrate glad tidings weekly. And among those are the birthdays of our members, such as one for Gogvonmagog. And if you thought that the week was only to contain a few celebration, you were wrong as ElliotWyvern also had a birthday to celebrate. But that was only the start of the birthday celebrations this week as Bravo2Kilo and undaunted both shared the same birthday, as did LiTTleDRAgo and phantasie followed by mass celebrations for Chukkaque, MidareZakura, aceramd, ChickenFetus, Yishen and Luxintra the very next day. After that, superfanqui1979 and DuskCrow were able to share some birthday cake together. And this Sunday, we had a birthday celebration as Siletrea was able to engage in some birthday cake eating.

General Chat

People's expectations and mindset was What's on the mind of some members this week. Taylor hadn't been in the forum for years, and on seeing conservative news sites in use in the News of the World board, she may likely not return. KDC relayed what he felt was a minor mental breakdown while laying a game. And DerVVulfman relayed that a co-worker of his had Covid while the werewolf himself now suffers from the symptoms. However, DerVVulfman did report he finally got a check from AT&T and confirmation the account is finally closed.

How fast can a hyper-active mammal be? If you were to ask KDC the question of What are YouTubing?, you'd find out for yourself as one appears to be set on destroying a chemical factory and computer core.

The Covid virus is still in the News of the World, first with United Airlines effectively dropping staff claiming Religious Exemptions from the vaccine, and new documentation proving that Dr. Anthony Fauci lied when he said the US NIH (National Institute of Health) never funded Gain-of-Function research in Wuhan. Meanwhile, a woman in a gorilla mask was caught on video throwing eggs at a candidate running against Gavin Newsome in the Recall Election.

Tech Talk

Fines and possible data breaches were the News of the Cyber World this week, beginning with WhatsApp slapped with a $267 million fine by Ireland's Data Protection Commission for not fully disclosing how it would use its client's data. The encrypted eMail service known as ProtonMail was revealed that it had disclosed IP addresses under a Swiss Court order, refuting their stance that they don't collect user information. And a vulnerability was detected within Atlassian Confluence software that could permit the injection of arbitrary code into a server or data center.

Forum Games & Nonsense

A simple little tale by Felgraf entered the forum this week, entitled ELDERLY WIZARD. Another humorous pen-n-paper retelling, MetalRenard suggests that DerVVulfman keeps them coming.

This week, the hack did not dissuade Eric Matyas from Sharing his Original Music this week, posting two more cyber-punk styled pieces. The music gave DerVVulfman a chuckle as he could envision their use in light-hearted, side-scrolling platformers.

Extra Gold XP & ACE

by Kyonides Arkanthes

Introduction

Usually you could just change a method in the Game_Party class to set a permanent limit for the amount of gold the party can keep in its purse. This scriptlet pretends to override that by allowing you the game developer to change the Maximum Gold Limit in game at any given time.

It includes several script calls for your convenience so please read the instructions, namely the Script Calls section of my scriptlet. By the way, I forgot to mention that you can also set an initial maximum limit by modifying the value of the MAX_GOLD constant. It's the only constant there so you won't miss it! Grinning

There are no screenshots for this changes had never relied on any GUI at all. Winking

  Board hacked
Posted by: Kirito - 09-06-2021, 11:19 PM - Forum: Announcements and Updates - Replies (21)

Obviously, change your password folks. It seems they overwrote the default template settings to display their payload. We have evidence that the database got dumped as well. so they probably have a copy of everything on the board. In any case, I undid their damages, minus the graphics. I was sure as to the extent of what they did at first, so I did a fresh copy of the base forum software, no plugins. The graphics are still in the backup folder, and I'll move them across later. Right now I'm tired. It wasn't even hard to remove.

We do know how they got in, and that plugin has been removed. We are aware of other vulnerabilities that they could potentially attack. We were aware of the one they exploited as well. This is why we were actively looking for other software to migrate to, but had yet to finish testing of the solutions to make sure they would work before disrupting the entire community. We still plan on doing that. It may take a little time, as we are volunteers with very busy real life schedules.

Welcome dear readers to the latest issue of the Weekly Gazette! Here in the Gazette, we give you the news in brief of what occurred in the past week as well as provide any news happening in Save-Point itself

Occasions
This week, Sailorvenus905 came my to say hello. DerVVulfman gave a howl in response.

This week, we had plenty of reasons to celebrate, mainly due to the number of birthdays that came and went. First this week was the birthday for Croug. Then we got to celebrate the birthdays of MechanicalPen and Ghorba. This was followed by three members going by DarkSpartan, Erik Tiber and Jarbeat who had shared equal slices of cake. Later on, emilywake had a slice of birthday cake, which was later followed by the birthdays of cyrodilicbrandy and Minkoff. This too was followed by fantoski, DevAesthetic, Qeo and DraconisArcanum enjoying their bit of birthday cake. And before the week was up, MGC's birthday had come and gone.

General Chat
Victory was on your Mind of DerVVulfman this week, receiving a notice from AT&T that the telecommunications company now owe him funds. Note that he has been repeatedly billed for services for months after he switched over to Verison.

Fake news and resignations hit the News of the World, beginning with Rolling Stone magazine's story about Horse Medicine overdoses turning out to be false. After that, both the US FDC and CDC are not backing President Biden's booster shot campaign. Threats from China and a gift from a friendly whale also appeared this week.

For those that enjoy manga styled art, TsunamiJurai announced that a campaign for Mizuki Saga Season 1 is in full swing. Perhaps you would like to pre-order today.

Forum Games & Nonsense
This week, DerVVulfman posted another Pen and Paper D&D story, and as everyone knows... THE BUTLER DID IT. This short and sweet story was relayed by Dorizzit.

Ahoy, mates! This week, Mike_Everley pieced together the Boat Battle Royale, an experiment to sue TheoAllen's Map Projectiles script whereby you shoot cannonballs at your enemy vessel as you hope that your frigate not be sunk. A very simple game with no skill needed at all.

This week, kyonides ported KPockets Daphne from its initial RPGMaker VXAce format for XP.

A new feature was added to KReBattle XP as kyonides received a request to make loading the latest save that much easier.

If you are tired of finding you hero unable to fight because he is unarmed, then KBareHands by kyonides may be for you. Now your hero's scores can affect your attack, whether or not he is armed; a perfect system for those wanting monk or martial-art classes. And such a feature would certainly be helpful if one found themselves UnEkuipped.

Within days of working out one script, Kyonides crafted a menu to control its features. As such, KBareHandsLotto is a stylish GUI to control how one regulates the options of his bare-handed combat system.

Music and Audio
Eric Maytas chuckled when he came by to Share His Original Music and Sound FX this week, reading how DerVVulfman reacted to one of his pieces last week. After that, he posted two more pieces of music while reminding readers about his high-quality OGG tracks and music packs.

Venture into Remi-chan's Neato Arty thread thing if you dare. The lethal demon lord may appear and catch you in her lethal embrace, or the latest abiet demonic creation from Macintosh may emerge. Simian Speed draws of her latest artworks are also available for your viewing pleasure.

Well, that's it for this week.

KBareHandsLotto
v0.9.0

by Kyonides Arkanthes

Introduction

Do you recall a script called KBareHands XP? Thinking

Grinning Of course you do! It is the very same script that allows you to alter a Orson hero's ATK, PDEF and MDEF in a unique way.
Well, now it has got a brand new custom menu to make it easy to change a hero's preferred stat in game. Gamer

Customizing the GUI is optional for it seems its a good looking one. Even so you can do that if you modify the values of the Constants found in the KBareHands::Picture and KBareHands::Stat modules.

KBareHands XP
v1.0.2

by Kyonides Arkanthes

Introduction

This scriptlet lets you add base attack, physical and magical defense to any hero. It could be especially useful for barehanded martial artists.
Those stats might also get increased per every level the hero gains. They can be increased or decreased by using script calls.

If you ever consider that to be pretty boring, then let me tell you that you got an alternative, namely the "Preferred Stat" option!
It will add the totals of all 3 stats to the preferred one while the others get no boost at all. This can be altered in game at any given time.

There are also the Base Stat and Stat Increase Lottos!

A given stat might get an increase or decrease depending on your luck.

Take into consideration that you need to configure several Constants found in the module below or you could just set the generic default values there and take care of the rest in game via calling the script...

You can also seal and unlock an hero's preferred stat.

There is no screenshot for obvious reasons.  Tongue sticking out

You can also find a demo if you visit the KBareHandsLotto XP thread. Winking

(August 23 to August 29, 2021)

Welcome dear readers to the latest issue of the Weekly Gazette!  Here in the Gazette, we give you the news in brief of what occurred in the past week as well as provide any news happening in Save-Point itself

Official Area
  Occasions
Insomniactypewriter made an introduction post to be fully registered. After that, kyonides strove to get him to talk a little bit more.

This week, we had plenty of reasons to celebrate, mainly due to the number of birthdays that came every day.  First this week, we had a birthday for TSatori which alerted bakeries to begin stocking up on their supplies.  For those fortunate enough to plan ahead, cakes a plenty were made for Shaffer95 one day, and Zohran and Alenthas the next.  Cake production was going full steam for the birthdays of kasikarbon and TheoAllen and later for both kinguanghua and Shojiki.  And before the need to replace their ovens, the birthdays of Zeriab and Juan J. Sánchez came and went without a cake crumb to spare.

  General Chat
If you asked DerVVulfman the query of What are YouTubing, he would say the first rule was to not talk about it. But the second video he watched on youtube, an upcoming movie trailer, surprised him at the end.

Mike_Everley brought out Profantasy Campaign Cartographer to make an overhead shot of a tavern skirmish. He asked for opinions, and while DerVVulfman was surprised the software still existed, the resident werewolf suggested muting the backgrounds so the characters and objects were more noticable. After some talk, Mike_Everley presented the Welsh flag DerVVulfman's mention of a gamer's magazine reminded him of its herald.

  Tech Talk
Telephone calls are the recent News of the Cyber World this week, first being news that a breach in T-Mobile's database now climbs to the total of over 50 million would-be victims as their data was stolen by hackers. And the second is an FBI alert that hackers are now actively calling victims of malware breaches, demanding ransom payments within a matter of a few days, lest all their stolen data be revealed on the Dark-Web. Attacks against the Microsoft Exchange, discovered WhatsApp exploits, and vulnerabilities in MicrosoftAzure also have reports that one may wish to read before venturing any further into the Cyber World.

  Forum Games & Nonsense
This week, we were granted the privilege of reading THE TALE OF BALTHAS by luffy316. Another comic D&D pen-and-paper tale found by DerVVulfman, it relayed the unorthodox actions of a character who did things quite impulsively and often had humorous results.

Games Development
  Development Discussion
For those curous What's up with your fellow RMers, Steel Beast 6Beets replied to Kain Nobel more about the current worldwide medical situation than gaming. But Remi-Chan returned the thread back to its initial premise by presenting a video short she remastered for her game, the final few seconds likely to entertain.

  Upcoming Projects
How often have you heard of a Traditional D and D Style Game being made?  This week, Mike_Everley told us that he is doing exactly that, though he doesn't have a working title right now.  A background story with a fair number of characters, one caught DerVVulfman's attention whilst he also inquired about the game's combat mechanics.  Mike_Everley appreciated the attention and replied that the system is mainly evented utilizing material by Yanfly, Gav and others. He was not aware of the combat mechanics of d20 or THAC0 that DerVVulman mentioned, but was keen to knowing how they worked.

Material Development
  Scripts Database
Once more did DerVVulfman update the Super Simple Vehicle System - Enhanced, this time to take care of some problems if the player ever ventured into a Vehicle Headquarters and sought to exit. At the same time, he added to the script's instructions a list of script calls that have been available for some time.

Kyonides returned to take care of a minor bug within his KRandomTeleport script.

How would you like to create a skill to really annoy the heroes of your party? If so, then you may wish to give UnEkuipSkill XP by kyonides a try. With it, you can create a skill in RPGMaker XP that disarms a hero or removes their protective shields at the whim of the enemy.

Originally a request, kyonides has now gifted us with KPockets Daphne, a limited inventory script for RPGMaker VXAce. He returned hrice after, first handling functions after the player pressed the OK butotn, second to take care of numerous bugs and improvements, and third to include a clipboard feature or documents.

Once more into the forum did Eric Matyas appear as he Shares his Original Music and Sound FX, delivering two more tracks. And along with that, Eric mentioned that he plans to have thematic music packs, so one's own work doesn't appear to have a mere collective of unrelated pieces.

  Art and Design
If you go down the halls of Save-Point and venture into Someones corner, you may find some pixelart of Ursula from Breath of Fire IV. DerVVulfman noted that she appeared more behaved than normal.

A number of portraits entered Remi-chan's Neato Arty thread thing! But with each, Remi-Chan also included speed draws. Watch as she shows her skills as she creates heroes and demonesses in fast paced videos replete with a music score.

  Literature Section
A poet is Mike_Everley, now gifting us a tale of an art lover At The South Bank, one who is lost at the Thames.

And one may wonder why a photo of Mike_Everley appears in our literature section entitled When the Iron Throne came back to Wales.

Well, that's it for this week.

KPockets Daphne
XP & ACE
v.1.0.5

by Kyonides Arkanthes

Introduction

There was some user better known as Daphne Lijffijt that had once posted a request for a very specific limited inventory for VX Ace.

So far most things work just as expected, except for a curious detail: the user never told me what would happen right after the user had pressed Gamer the OK Button. Laughing
Now it does allow the player to consume items or call common events as you would usually do. Grinning

There is a single script call but it is optional so you might not need to ever care about that. Winking

It now features the use of a few tags that you can leave in an item's note box. Book

Besides you can now open the actual Book documents or notes you might have found so far.

Keep in mind that the demo includes a mystery to be solved by Grant, its lead character. Confused

UnEkuipSkill XP

by Kyonides Arkanthes

Introduction

You know how much Ghost ghosts hate Aluxes aka Alex so why don't you let them disarm him or remove a piece of armor? Laughing

Keep in mind that you will need to create two new skills in the skill database. Winking

Then open the script and go to the UnEkuip module in order to set the corresponding skill IDs.

Code:
module UnEkuip
 WEAPON_SKILL = 81
 ARMOR_SKILL  = 82
 SHOW_MISS_MESSAGE = true
  # several lines of code here
end

Of course, they might not be equal to 81 and 82 respectively in your game project. Laughing + Tongue sticking out

As a bonus you can also test an add on for the default battle system where you can equip a single weapon or piece of armor per actor and per turn. Tongue sticking out

Feel free to use it anywhere but not as a umbrella or else you'll get a cold then. Feeling sick

  The Weekly Gazette 08-22-2021

(February 5 to February 11, 2021)

Welcome dear readers to the latest issue of the Weekly Gazette! Here in the Gazette, we give you the news in brief of what occurred in the past week as well as provide any news happening in Save-Point itself

Official Area
Occasions
Though he played around with RPGMaker VXAce for a while, jkingjamesj joined our community to say hello. He was greeted by DerVVulfman who inquired of his talents, MetalRenard who noted our discord channel, and kyonides who suggested he stay clear of any canines he encountered.

A good number of birthdays were celebrated this week in our forum, starting with that of Anski. Ace, Launian, chameleon1333 and EYELESS celebrated their birthday, followed close behind by birthday celebrations for DariusSlayer and Mappelond. These were followed by Dreadzly's birthday soon after. It wasn't long before lorddonk had the chance to celebrate his birthday. And lastly, Argol228 enjoyed his birthday this Sunday.

General Chat
Turmoil is an appropriate word for this week's News of the World, with President Biden under fire by World Leaders over Afghanistan and statements he made being immediately called out as lies. For Democrats, the FBI's report citing that the January 6th incident in Washington DC was not an insurrection will surely be crushing. Meanwhile, terror struck a man at a gym as video shows an unseen force actually grabbing him and pulling him across the floor.

Tech Talk
It appears cellular phone companies hit the News of the Cyber World this week as T-Mobile had what appears to be a massive breach affecting more than 100 million customers. And while Blackberry's operating system may be extremely popular, critical flaws were found that could affect the medical, automotive and energy sectors. Meanwhile, be watchful of your baby monitor as hackers can intercept that signal and watch you in turn, this according to a new report.

The issue with the Print Spooler is still a major player for Ransomware attacks making Windows 10 Unsafe! Now a group known as Vice Society recently used the vulnerability to steal sensitive data from a network (name withheld), and claimed responsibility for several School District and healthcare system hacks.

Forum Games & Nonsense

Games Development
Development Discussion
When one asks a member What's up about RMing, you usually get a snippet or two. However, Kain Nobel returned with a big update on his return to game development, his rock album in post production, and his move and subsequent start of a business.

Material Development
Event Systems Database
For those users of RPGMaker 2003, DerVVulfman made a demo of a simple Day/Night System. While it doesn't have features like a clock display, he suggests alteration for such could be simple enough to perform.

Scripts Database
Kyonides revisited his KInquire XP system and added an option for those lovers of police dramas. Now the content you create can include a case report number. In addition to that, some new script calls were added that lets you change the dialog content in-game.

It is a rarity that kyonides makes a script to work with the RPGMaker XP battlesystem. But this week he has, now introducing KReBattle XP to the world. Now, you have the option to perform a do-over if your party is killed in battle.

If you're tired of using RPGMaker XP's innate way of granting an actor access to weapons by their class, kyonides created KustomEkuipSets XP which lets you use script calls to add or remove what weapons or armor they may be able to equip.

This week, kyonides revealed an unofficial add-on to the Super Simple Vehicle System which he entitled VPassengersLimit XP. Now you can ensure that a vehicle has a maximum capacity of riders.

DerVVulfman updated his Super Simple Vehicle System - Enhanced thread this week, not for an alteration of the vehicle engine but that it now contains a script call for those wishing to move vehicle positions when the Set Event Location command cannot. With that, he gave an explantion as to why the updated demos now include the feature.

Creativity Section
Music and Audio
This week, Eric Matyas made a special request as he continues to Share his Original Music and Sound FX, essentially contributions to support his music endeavors and purchases of his .ogg music packs. Still, he wished it known that he accepts commissions and posted another epic piece of work this week.

Literature Section
The Bibliotheca
While the siblings were otherwise engaged, a new threat emerged within the pages of The Worlds We Have Left Behind. The tale by kyonides continues as the Jade Emperor of the Nocturnal Empire sets his sights upon reclaiming an ancient land. Unfortunately, the mad Emperor's target is the within the Sea Breeze Kingdom where our young friends may be found. And the archeologist finally made some headway with the text he needs to decipher. But what does that translation now herald?

Well, that's it for this week.
