(Marchy 25 to March 31, 2024)

Welcome dear readers to the latest issue of the Weekly Gazette! Here in the Gazette, we give you the news in brief of what occurred in the past week as well as provide any news happening in Save-Point itself

Official Area
Occasions
Joining our community this week is Tahnryu. While not wholly unfamiliar with the RPG game development community, he admits he is one who takes his time, and is currently learning to do pixelart. Greeted by DerVVulfman who told him never to quit, and Remi-chan who looks forward to see his progress.

After gaining a fresh copy of RPGMaker XP, Schezoroark decided to join our collective. Completely new to scripts, Schezoroark came by as it turns out that our forum is a storehouse for RPGMaker XP scripts. But not without talent, Schezoroark is an artist who deals with character portraits. And greeted was Schezoroark by both DerVVulfman who noted that scripts were mere tools and not the end, and Remi-chan who felt inspired at seeing a new artist enter the forum.

Tech Talk
For those who are paying attention to the CryptoCurrency scene, the sentencing of FTX scammer Sam Bankman-Fried to prison certainly hit the News of the Cyber World this week. China is furiously working to keep TikTok running under their control in the U.S., creating a youth council portal despite its dangerous participation challenges, and paying millions in TV advertisements in an attempt to sway public opinion. TikTok isn't the only one in danger, the EU launching antitrust investigations into Apple, Google and Meta (formerly known as Facebook). Meanwhile, warnings abound as Google's new AI search system is redirecting traffic to malware sites instead of away. And despite the apparent victory both the Actors and Writers guild in Hollywood, there is yet another major push to use AI in film and TV production; a push now that could eliminate those in the editing and arts departments. Dangerous chemical leaks from solar farms in Texas, self reliant robots and self-driving cars, and more hit the CyberNews this week.

After revelations by the US and UK disclosed attacks by hacker group APT40, New Zealand revealed that those same Chinese Hackers breached two computer systems used by their Parlament in 2021. While nothing of a sensitive nature was accessed, the government summoned Chinese Ambassador Wang Xiaolong to lodge a formal complaint, stopping short harsh sanctions against Bejing.

Games Development
Development Discussion
If one wonders What's up with RM developers, Remi-chan has been toiling away on her current game, putting a plugin developed by Tsukihime to good use, expanding her dialogue system's choice menu options. Meanwhile, her menus, including pamphets and brochures, will be a subject of revision once more.

Material Development
Tools
For users of the Linux edition of the HiddenChest RGSS Player Executable, the issue with Midi music not playing had been corrected. The bug was part and parcel to the developers of the fluidsynth library altering the library settings, which in turn forced end-users to update their works. As yet, there is still not a new Windows OS edition, though the code for an earlier port was recovered. However, certain necessary OpenAL and boost library functions for the Windows port

Scripts Database
This week, kyonides ported his KEventual script from RPGMaker XP to VX, now allowing his system to allow one to add, remove and duplicate events on the map by scripted command calls.

Just an RPGMaker XP port wasn't enough for kyonides, now releasing KSteps2Doom for all three ruby-script platforms of the RPGMaker engine. With some tweaks added, you can now return the randomness of those encounters back as desired.

If the default help display during battle doesn't suit your tastes, the BattleItemHelp script for RPGMaker XP might. It alters the help window shown in combat with a different setup and is visible based on a new series of conditions.

Creativity Section
Music and Audio
2024 has been a good year for science fiction enthusiasts wishing to score their game, for Eric Matyas continues to Share His Original Music. As in weeks past, he composed another work that evoked the surreal with "Ancient Alien Worlds" which can be found within his Sci-Fi pages. But besides his public releases, he is available for custom work if desired.

Well, that's it for this week.
