 Why do people make fangames?
#31
Are you serious? That's just crazy imo. I really don't see the harm in doing fanart or fanfiction..........At least I can kinda of understand the fangame one.
Hardcore gamer (which console should I play >_> ) - JRPG, Classic Platform Game, and Survival Horror Enthusiast (there was a hole here.) - Artist/Singer (German and Japanese > English crapola~ any day!) - Bounto supporter~ (nom nom nom souls) - Kagerozakun Obsessed! (I see. . .) - Not so normal girl XD (but you love me anyway)

Who is "they"?
Besides, that would be really stupid idea to do that becuase these play a major role in making a fandom more popular and keeping people talking about it (Thus more people know about, more people will buy it, more people will tell it to other people etc.). Which is also the reason why many Japanese companys not only allow but approve Doujinshi and encurage people to draw and write about something. Other countrys do that as well.
I have heard about single authors who don't want that and fine, let's respect that but the reactions of the fans are usually negative and the fandom is unable to grow as others that have such support by the fans.
That a game company doesn't want their game to be remade (possibly better) and avalible for free or anything not approved by them to be sold is understandable. Sad for the fans to some degree, but still.

If it's funny, make sure people laugh. If it's not funny, make it funny (unless it's actually really serious). (silvercheers)

Please don't spell my name "Yamina-chan". It's all small. Thank you =D

i think making a fangame is an admission of being a completely uncreative person with no good ideas of your own. if you can't string together a handful of ideas without sephiroth turning into a super sayan, then you need to shut down your computer, and go back to bagging my groceries.

Well that's what I heard earlier this year. Big companies were trying to make it illegal.

@yamina-chan:
I forget their names. I'll see if I can find the article. Though not hearing much of it must be a good sign.

I TOTALLY disagree with that, many people make GREAT fan games, better than original games. People do what they think it's fun, and if they like something and want to honor that thing, this doesn't make them less creative than other people.

Many people make fan games to honor a serie, manga, anime, movie, game or whatever they want to honor, and thats not necessarely a lack of creativity, in some cases people end being far more creative in making a fan game...

It's funny someone with an Face maker avatar talking about people being uncreative... u.u

the chrono trigger and morrowind fan remakes aside, ive never seen a good fangame that could stand alone without the source material. i used facemaker because im a pretty sad artist. Thomas Jefferson (i think) said men should strive to emulate socrates and plato, not stephanie meyer and xerox.

Morrowwind remake fangame? Excuse me? Shocked Dude, I'd like to know where I can find that RMXP fangame where you can play a Dunmer, Breton or Khajiit.

You can see I'm not kidding as I know the source material. Winking
