 RPG making in Godot?
#1
Does anybody here have experience making RPGs with Godot? I've been looking at it a lot and wow does it look potentially great to map with. The 2d lighting model has me debating whether to finish a much more complex feature I've been trying to build in Unity for too many years. Those features weren't there last time I checked, which I think was just before 4.0 dropped...Anyway, it'd be wonderful if there's a whole suite of available resources to make an RPG, but if there's not I would still appreciate any advice, thanks!

I have mostly kept to RPGmaker, though I have given Stencyl, Game Maker Studio, Unity and Pixel Game Maker MV a decent go.

As for resources, there's a few ways in which you could get some more easily, though it will depend on how legally dubious you are comfortable being.

The easiest solution, though the most legally dubious: Is to utilize the rpgmaker resources, even if only as placeholders. There are some RPGmaker DLCs that can be used in other engines, though if I recall the RTP is designed to be used solely with rpgmaker products.

If you're willing to throw down some cash, there's a lot of decent pixel resources on the unity asset store. I personally have utilized the store myself for custom icons to use with menus and interface stuff. This is not legally dubious as the resources are not at all under the same umbrella that rpgmaker tries to huddle its resources under.

Various game making communities have access to loads of assets and resources, although digging through it all can be tiresome. There's also the risk of legal issues due to a lot of these resources being game rips from established IPs.

This would also depend on if you intended to do something commercial or just for hobby's sake. if for hobby's sake, you can basically do whatever you want so long as you give credit to the artists responsible, something you'd have to do regardless.

I look forward to seeing what you will create!
