Update! :3

This is a outline of a dragon I wanted to create. Its the backview of the dragon, of course :) I was trying to go for a slightly turning dragon angle. Its really hard for me to explain in words, so here's hoping that my roughy will explain what I mean.

My question, at least I hope someone can help me, is "is this were the spine would be?" Its the line it red.
:)

My sister said it should look like this:
:)

I was wondering if anyone could provide a little assistance. I think it looks normal with both, but I have no idea. If both aren't correct, here is a template. If you have some time, could you (reader) perhaps help me out a bit? :33
:)

Thank you very much for reading and taking a look guys, it means a lot! :D

Testing out all the styles above to see which matches best...I'm currently trying my hand at scales. I like how its going, but I think the neck spikes might be tricky to get to look right. I need to figure out a way to make the neck horn/spikes separate away from the scales. I see how I can do it in my head, but I have to try it first xD

What do you guys think? Scales and talons of the dragons have to be the hardest part for me. This is the first time I made scales that I actually liked...if you have any help/suggestions or tutorials, I would really love to read them! :3

I like the scales, although I think they could be a little more uniform.

@Buprettyinpink:
I tried something alligator, but I'm not that good yet. :(

I can't wait until I can do the finishing touches to it and make them more "crisp".

@Kristovski:
What do you mean by "uniform"? Laughing + Tongue sticking out

Firstly, I'd like to say I'm not trying to say your art looks like butt. I really do like the scales and have the utmost respect for your drawings.
1. There is some inconsistencies in the drawing that just keep catching my eye
Eye Catchers
2. The scales start sharp at the top of the head and then dull out near the bottom. I personally don't mind either of them, but I think it would look better as one or the other.
3. The scales around the spines and horns don't really look like part of the environment. It's almost like a cutout of scales, with no curvature to them.

@1:
Yea, I see what you mean. And thank you very much for helping me out. My sister pointed this out as well, I will be going over it to edit the scales and whatnot :)
What do you mean by the "hollowed" space piece though? Blushing + Cheery

@2:
What do you mean by start sharp and end dull? Do you mean the shape of the scale from the top is sharp (pointed) but near the end it becomes more rounded?

@3:
I see what you mean xD

I was going to go over it and add shadows and whatnot, to help it look more like horns...do you have any suggestions on how to draw the horns in the angle I set it to? Its been troubling me. I talked to some people on DeviantArt and they said it should look fine with detail to it, but I'm all "bah!" Laughing

And again -- thank you so much for helping me out with my drawing! :3

I see a lot of empty spaces between the scales- There are some that end in the M-shape, what Kristo has mentioned, but I think this may stem from -how- you approached drawing the scales. I personally think you could've spent more time, attention, and effort into drawing the scales- A Digital canvas gives you the great ability to be able to do this easily, with zooming and variable brush/pen sizes. It's time consuming, but the end result is a lot better if you consider that each individual scale is its own, rather than a pattern. Each individual scale is an element on its own, with differences that set it aside from the other scales, even those differences are minor. It isn't the scales as a unit that define each individual scale, but it is each individual scale that defines the enter mesh of scales. Disregard this if you've already been following this method.

Another idea, not sure if it has been mentioned. REFERENCES~ REFERENCES~ REFERENCES~. DO ET.

I will go over the image to correct what Kristo pointed out. I was just looking at the picture again, and he's right. The horns look like cut outs in the scales! >.<
I hope I can find a reference picture -- even though I've been trying for weeks to find one -- to fix this...

Well, I've been trying to follow that method xD I'm trying to make each scale different, but keep a basic "size" there. All the empty spaces, the butt looking scales and whatnot, will be fixed. I was going to go over it with lineart, re-forms and whatnot, but I've been concentrating on the style of scales.

References are extremely hard for me to find. I can't seem to find any picture of a lizard (or scaled creature) that is somewhat in the angle I made my dragon in. I found one image of a Komodo Dragon, but its really far back and blurry >.>
