 Forum Cleaned
Dear Members,

Your eyes are not deceiving you.  While the board does not contain any shoutbox, newest post stats window, or any other plug-ins, the forum now has undergone many visual repairs.  I cannot stress that I personally have been toiling away at the evilness of the Star Rating feature that had plagued me for two weeks.  But at last, whilst there are no graphic enhancing plugins in use, the basic forum design has now been re-established.

Now you may be wondering why there are no plug-ins.  This is in part due to our previous hack, and actually the only true hack since 2009.  While entertaining and visually enticing, a number of the plug-ins were created fully, or in part, by a coder who was unaware of vulnerabilities which were exploited.

It is also our intent to migrate the forum to an even more secure and sophisticated forum software package.  Rather than spend time having to take time uninstalling plug-ins and clean the database of residual data, it was decided to merely go with a clean design, plain though some may believe.

Since the 9th of September, the fateful day of the hack, the forum saw a deluge of accounts created.  Through many online tools,  they were able to be identified as those propagating spam activity.  There were plenty with TOR proxies, a favorite amongst hackers, and those that had been reported up to 10,000 times for spam activity.

That is not to say that all registrants during this time were guilty of this crime against common internet decorum. Some new members were completely innocent and are rightfully welcomed. However, all accounts dating back to the beginning of September have been thoroughly vetted with roughly half-a-dozen tools. And as of now, vetting to ensure that that no miscreants ever has been implemented and reintroduced.

But enough of that, correct?

You will find that you may at last expand/collapse the boards you find of interest.  The traditional [-] buttons in the top-right of each board header (Official Area, Games Development, etc) now function as intended. As to why they had not under the previous three theme, I would have to guess it might have been a plug-in conflict as the basic code without the plug-ins actually have little to no change.

Insofar as posting, we have switched over to a basic WYSIWYG system. The Color Choice windows are not as extensive as what was in use, but the basic set-up is not dissimilar from what was in use for all these years. You may even find it preferable.  Many of the bbcode commands such as the Justify, Tab still function as the bulk of these had not relied upon plugins or outside software.  However, the rarely used (if ever)
[YOUTUBE] bbcode is borked.

One final note:  Of the plugins that some enjoyed, one was the automatic embedding plugin where it was only necessary to paste the URL of a youtube video or song, and a player for the media would appear automatically.  As all the others, this plug-in was removed. However, one may still paste youtube videos through
[video=youtube], with the word youtube in lowercase, and an end tag of [/video]. And MP3 files merely need the [Audio] bbcode for music performance.

Thank you for your patience.

Dear Members who had custom userbars,

Due to the limits of the stock system, only one userbar may now be displayed within your account profile. And by default, it would normally state your rank as a member of staff or whether you are a non-staff registered member. However, I felt it extremely annoying that members cannot show themselves off in the manner they so desired.

While only one userbar may be available and visible per member, those who used their forum points to acquire a custom userbar will now find their userbar prominently displayed.  It will not say that you are a registered member, let alone staff as some staff members paid for their custom bars with the point system previously available in the system. However, the point system was never available to anyone unless fully registered.

As a bonus, I now updated the color of the member's usernames to match that of their userbars.  Those who had userbars of an off-shade version of red, their usernames displayed within the forum will likewise be that same color.  Merely decoration, it certainly differentiates our members who used their existing forum points.
