RE: Epic Trans-forum Game Making Contest of Dooom! - Kain Nobel - 08-13-2012

I hate to announce this but I suppose someone should, I'll just get it out of the way.

Collectively, we at Team Sexy have lost interest in this contest, mostly due to the no text/speech rule and the fact that we all have commitments to bigger projects. A contest of this nature is hard to pull off due to the language barrier between an English and French board, we would've been better off if it was more geared toward, idk, music and graphic resources or something, or if everyone was bi-lingual.

I've suggested IRC before^ but our schedules are all over the place, it's hard to meet up at the same time, that's where private project sub-forums would really help out. PMs are semi-effective but easy to get confused and cluttered in, but it's better than nothing :D

Oh.

Disappointed.

And for those who said "it's a bad theme, you can't do that kind of thing", check this out:

You stand corrected.

(Oh and It's the last day to get started so it's ok for me to reveal the theme now.)

This all seems a bit overdramatic, doesn't it? Look, the theme is hard, yes. ... Okay, it's very hard. Okay, for me personally, it's going to be a complete bloody nightmare since writing is just about my only RM talent... but you know what?

I don't care.

Because I'm still doing this.

Team Awesome's a bit... inactive ATM but I said I'd do this and that means I'll do it!

Even if I completely fail, even if I cock it up so much it literally resembles a giant penis, even if I manage to pull something off that's actually pretty good, this is a challenge I chose to undertake AND CHALLENGE IS MY MIDDLE NAME! EVEN IF WE DIG OUR OWN GRAVE, WE WON'T STOP! ONCE WE'VE DUG THOUGH, IT MEANS THAT WE'VE WON! WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK WE AREE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

TEAM AWESOOOOME!

lol

I want to stand on the record as saying that I actually find the theme very interesting (though I don't want to sound like I'm kissing ass), but very difficult at the same time .
I'm sure it would be fun to dabble with it, but my project skills are meager at best right now.
I hope none of the other teams share a similar fate. I would love to see what could be done with such a unique topic

Well, the word is out about the theme: Horror and no dialog or text. Horror is typically good for short games, and the lack of dialog (or none in this case) should make it totally fair between both us and RPG Detente. And I already figured out a way about how to handle the no-text restriction.... but I'm not playing so ... Nya nya nya. Laughing + Tongue sticking out Can't tell or join... gotta play fair.

none of these games are going to be as scary as a tissue with ghost eyes drawn on. 2d horror isnt a thing without dialogue. sweet home is nonsense without dialogue. maniac mansion is nonsense without dialogue. that resident evil game on the boat (gba/ds?) was terrible. and not scary. everything is flat pixels, nothing has any weight to it like that, and can't be 'real' the way mr.x busting through the basement wall after you kill him in resident evil 2. he existed in three dimensions, in a world that had some heft to it.. don't mean to complain so much. just tired. probably autistic too.

My kids are back to school and I'm temporarily running two stores, so that's been taking a lot out of me. I have one kid who goes to elementary school, another kid that goes to high school, and I watch my nieces in the between time. After this week over, the boss lady of the other store should be back and I will probably return to this contest as a free agent, if not maybe I will volunteer as a judge.

If they have the desire, I wouldn't mind still assisting Team Sexy in this project, but you guys are going to have to be the driving force for the first week. after that I'll probably be back to normal productivity. Still, good luck to everyone who continues to participate in this event, I look forward to playing the demos when they're done.

"Probably autistic too"...? Since when has being on the spectrum been an excuse for anything?

(Sorry but I'm on it myself and I've always reject that line of thought. It's kind of my single-issue wonk.)

RE: Epic Trans-forum Game Making Contest of Dooom! - MetalRenard - 08-14-2012

Like I've said previously, I personally came up with multiple ideas for stories and game concepts that would work well in the theme and allotted time.
From now on, lets just talk about teams that are actually taking part, their progress and ideas. I'm fed up to be honest. :)
