There are probably a number of members that download video files to watch at their leisure. But due to their nature, .mp4 files are large and will take up a considerable amount of space. Oddly, the size of the file may not need to be as large as they are after downloading, or even upon creation.

I found TWO online websites that will compress and optimize your .MP4 files. And the service is free.

Yes, you can click me...

This free tool will help you to compress MP4 online, optimize them for the web, and seamlessly convert them to a smaller size for easy sharing and faster site loading.

POSITIVES:

Very good compression without losing quality

Will convert .avi, .mov, .wmv and .webm to MP4 (I didn't test other formats)

Can go beyond 500MB size (I just converted a 3hr 520mb D&D session video)

Convenient Drag & Drop window allowing multiple

NEGATIVES:

The slowest of the two

Might get stuck/frozen on a compression requiring browser restart (ie close all browers down to clear the cache)

Of course, not all files may compress but actually increase in size if the video file was already optimized

Yes, you can click me...

This is also a free online MP4 video compressor that can compress MP4 videos to make them smaller without losing quality. The dropdown at the top also offers other features.

POSITIVES:

Decent compression without losing quality at a faster speed.

Boasts options for Grayscale, format conversion, audio removal and more.
NEGATIVES:

No drag-and drop. Manual selection of a single file only.

Apparent 500mb max size limit (I never did one that large anyway).

In the present thread I will post some curious news relating to cyber security, (design) flaws, adaptations, modifications, mobile apps and the like.

Modern ram used for computers vulnerable to Rowhammer attacks

https://www.linuxexperten.com/news/moder...er-attacks

Rowhammer attack is a means by which hackers can exploit the very same nature of DRAM, its high cell density to increase its capacity in GB of memory and data exchange. How does it happen? Well, those memory cells are able to leak its contents to other cells that had nothing to do with the cell block requested by any application to run properly. Usually programmers and designers would AVOID it at all costs but makers seemed to be lazy and refused to address the problem for years.

You wouldn't want your videogame session to overlap your homework written on Word / Powerpoint or LibreOffice Writer / Presentation that took you weeks to compile after readings dozen of boring books on subjects you find tedious and full of crappy stuff included between those very few snippets of information you have extracted from it, right?

Target Row Refresh (TRR) or the way they planned to deal with such issues are kind of laughable from a hacker's perpective it seems. Your data loaded on your DRAM is still in danger!
Nowadays they appear to be working on it at a slow pace... in vane because a study reveal a custom tool a research group made can be used to retrieve encryption keys from memory, or escalate an attacker's access right to sudo/SYSTEM-level on some of those flash new memory cards.

A real scandal...

Researchers from ThreatFabric found out that Android phones might still be in danger.

Cerberus, a flaw capable of stealing some security codes generated by Android via Google Authenticator app, was discovered back in 2014 and the finder alerted Google about it on GitHub. Nightwatch researchers raised this very same point again in 2017 when they reported the same issue to Google's security team, says ZDNET.

Cerberus is also a hybrid between a banking trojan and a remote access trojan (RAT). It will get installed on your phone and then access the authenticator, take a screenshot of it with the generated codes and send them back to hackers eager to place their dirty hands on them. Yes, they get access to your banking data stored on your phone...
Frightening indeed!

NOTE

This is not a very complicated procedure. In fact you just need to know how to download files while using your current web browser (any old version of Mozilla Firefox included) and how to move directories from one location to another by means of terminal window commands and change the directory and its files ownership to user root.

Let's get this done quickly.

First of all you should know where to find the latest version of Firefox for Linux. It's right here.

Now you either open your terminal window (Konsole if using Kubuntu) or your file manager (Dolphin on Kubuntu). Then you extract the tar.bz archive to a folder named firefox.

Right after this step enter the following command in the terminal window.

sudo mv /home/user/Downloads/firefox /opt/firefox

or

sudo mv /home/user/Downloads/firefox /opt/firefox-latest

You might want to name the folder as firefox or firefox-latest.

Your current download directory might not be /home/user/Downloads, so just adjust that part to match your actual download directory's location.

The next step would be to change the directory and its files and subdirectories ownership. Right, let's go back to the terminal window and enter...

sudo chown -R root:root /opt/firefox

or

sudo chown -R root:root /opt/firefox-latest

Now the last part would be to create a desktop link so you can quickly open your favorite web browser with a foxy tail.

If you are using Kubuntu, then just copy and paste the one you have for your older version of Firefox or edit the current one to match the actual location of your brand new firey friend
