House, Senate Reject Challenges to Electoral College Votes From Arizona

The chambers each voted on the measure following a breach by a group of rioters of the Capitol building while other protesters were gathered outside. It is unclear who instigated the breach of the building.
The Senate overwhelmingly voted 93-6 against the objection to the counting of a slate of 11 presidential electors from Arizona for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.
All votes in favor to the objection came from Republicans. They are Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.), John Kennedy (R-La.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), and Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.).
In the House, 303-121 voted against the objection.

GOP Lawmakers Decry Violence at US Capitol, Call for Prosecutions

Republican lawmakers condemned the violence at the U.S. Capitol on the afternoon of Jan. 6 when throngs of protesters breached the building, forcing Congress to go into lockdown.
The protesters, many dressed in pro-Trump apparel, stormed the building at around 2:15 p.m after breaking windows to get inside. Video footage shows some protesters tussling with police, others showed participants carrying American and Trump flags walking through the hall connecting the two chambers of the Capitol. One woman died after being shot inside the Capitol building.
The breach interrupted debates in both Chambers over objections to the electoral votes from the presidential election. By 6 p.m., officials declared the Capitol building had been secured.

The woman fatally shot inside the U.S. Capitol Wednesday has been identified as Ashli Babbitt, a friend confirms to Fox News. Babbitt was a 14-year veteran who served four tours with the Air Force and resided in San Diego, according to media reports.
Agents with the FBI, Department of Homeland Security, the Secret Service and the Capitol Police were stationed throughout the Capitol to prevent any more disruptions that marred Wednesday's planned review of electoral votes.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews, East Wing Chief of Staff Stephanie Grisham, and Social Secretary Rickie Niceta all submitted their resignations after pro-Trump supporters mobbed the U.S. Capitol building to stop Congress from certifying the Electoral College votes.
According to the Associated Press, Twitter asked for deletion of three of Trump’s tweets, including the video where he told supporters to "go home." Trump’s account deleted those posts, Twitter said; had they remained, Twitter threatened to extend his suspension beyond the 12-hour ban.

Trump Attorney Jenna Ellis ‘Deeply Disappointed’ in Pence Amid Electoral Vote Battle

Trump campaign legal adviser Jenna Ellis on Wednesday said that she was “deeply disappointed” in Vice President Mike Pence, who refused to reject disputed electoral votes, saying that he believes he lacks the power to do so under the U.S. Constitution.
Pence, the presiding officer of the joint congressional session where electoral votes are formally counted, said earlier in the day that he believes the Constitution “constrains” him from “claiming unilateral authority” to make decisions about rejecting or accepting votes even if he has concerns about election integrity.
Instead, he said that when disputes about elections arise, it is the responsibility of the “people’s representatives who review the evidence and resolve disputes through democratic process.”

Twitter, Facebook lock Trump account for violating policies

Twitter and Facebook locked President Trump’s account for the first time on Wednesday night, with both platforms saying he violated their policies, and Twitter going a step further to warn him that further violations of their rules would result in a "permanent suspension" of his account.
Twitter's move came after the social media giant removed a video the president tweeted, in which he told protesters who had stormed the Capitol to "go home," while maintaining that the 2020 election had been "stolen."

In regard to the ongoing situation in Washington, D.C., we are working proactively to protect the health of the public conversation occurring on the service and will take action on any content that violates the Twitter Rules.
Threats of and calls to violence are against the Twitter Rules, and we are enforcing our policies accordingly.
In addition, we have been significantly restricting engagement with Tweets labeled under our Civic Integrity Policy due to the risk of violence. This means these labeled Tweets will not be able to be replied to, Retweeted, or liked, [and we are also] exploring other escalated enforcement actions and will keep the public updated with any significant developments.
This means that the account of @RealDonaldTrump will be locked for 12 hours following the removal of these tweets.
If the Tweets are not removed, the account will remain locked.
Future violations of the Twitter Rules, including our Civic Integrity or Violent Threats policies, will result in permanent suspension of the @realDonaldTrump account.

US Condemns Muslim Charity’s Leaders Over Anti-Semitic Comments

The U.S. Department of State has condemned anti-Semitic attitudes and comments expressed by Islamic Relief Worldwide’s (IRW) leadership.
The department’s Office of the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism noted in a Dec. 30, 2020, statement that the IRW is a serious concern, given that it was established as an international charitable organization, has a tax exemption, an annual monetary allocation of approximately $100 million, and has shown “a consistent pattern of spreading the most vile anti-Semitic vitriol.”
The statement noted that Heshmat Khalifa, an IRW trustee and director, had called Jews the “grandchildren of monkeys and pigs” in a post on his Facebook page, according to a mid-2020 exposé by London’s The Times and Dr. Lorenzo Vidino, director of the Program on Extremism at George Washington University.
