US sanctions Russia for Trisis Malware

The U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned a Russian government research institute on Friday that it said was connected to the strain of destructive malware frequently labeled the most dangerous in the world.
Known as Trisis or Triton, the malicious software is designed to target systems used to safely control emergency shutdowns of industrial plants. Last year, security researchers at Dragos determined that the hackers behind the tool had scanned the networks of U.S. electrical utilities, after the malware initially surfaced in 2017 at a Saudi petrochemical plant.
Treasury pinned blame on the State Research Center of the Russian Federation FGUP Central Scientific Research Institute of Chemistry and Mechanics (TsNIIKhM) for supporting the 2017 attack in the Middle East. FireEye researchers had previously linked the research institution to the hacking group that deployed Trisis.
Trisis is unique among malware in its risk to human safety at energy plants, according to Robert M. Lee, chief executive of industrial security company Dragos.

It's not the very first time US has blamed a foreign government for being involved in hacking industry networks. Still, this time we can't really foresee how Moscow will react to US sanctions. Keep in mind both governments seem to agree on the need to extend a nuclear weapons agreement but everything could change after this event...

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden showed he was "very disconnected from the real world" when the Democrat said during Thursday night's debate he would "transition" the American economy away from oil and gas, Double Eagle Energy Holdings CEO Cody Campbell told "The Story" Friday.

I was disappointed... I wasn't surprised by it.
What he said last night was consistent with the platform he's carried from the beginning. He has flipped and flopped a lot.
But really he is after the end of our industry.
He wants to put an end to our industry and what he said last night made that very clear.

I disagree with VP Biden's statement tonight. Energy is part of the backbone of New Mexico’s economy. We need to work together to promote responsible energy production and stop climate change, not demonize a single industry.

Now you can see how even a fellow Democrat doesn't agree with Biden's extremist plan of getting rid of oil. Why should politicians impoverish people like the Texans or New Mexicans? Their economies heavily depend on oil. Plus parts of oil's secondary products  become raw materials for medicines.

Flynn case judge issues unusual order

In an unusual order posted Friday, the federal judge in the case of former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn told the Justice Department to file a declaration -- under penalty of perjury -- by Monday that evidence in the case is “true and correct.”
The court order was issued after prosecutors admitted accidentally altered documents -- notes written by former FBI agent Peter Strzok and former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe -- were used.
“The government has acknowledged that altered FBI records have been produced by the government and filed on the record in this case,” noted Judge Emmet Sullivan
The order from Sullivan comes as the government again requested the judge dismiss the criminal case against Flynn, a move Sullivan has so far resisted.

Well, since a former prosecutor provided the court with fake evidence, it sounds logical to demand a confirmation that backs up the current DOJ's claim. Even so Judge Sullivan has been a real pain in the... He could overstepping his own authority by demanding extra procedures that are uncommon in the judiciary system.

Usually you'd say "oh this doesn't really matter!" But don't let these insects fool you! They love to kill bees so plantations and even woods are in danger whenever they reproduce themselves in a foreign environment.

The first confirmed detection of an Asian giant hornet in Washington state was made in December 2019 and the first hornet was caught in July.
It takes only a small number of the aggressive hornets to wipe out an entire honey bee hive in a matter of hours.
Their sting can be extremely painful to humans.

During a panel discussion on Friday, CNN anchor Jake Tapper slammed the president for remarks he made during the final presidential debate, including saying he's "done more" for the Black community than any president with the "possible exception of Abraham Lincoln" and how he declared himself as the "least racist" person in the room.

Normally any other commentator would just agree on that and build upon it by adding more critics... but not this time.

I think it's really unfortunate because Donald Trump, and I get beat up by liberals every time I say it but I keep saying it, he has done good stuff for the Black community.
Opportunity Zone stuff, Black college stuff, I worked with him on criminal stuff, I saw Donald Trump have African American people, formally incarcerated, in the White House, embraced them, treated them well. There is a side to Donald Trump that I think he does not get enough credit for.

Sudan is to normalise relations with Israel - the latest in a series of Arab League countries to do so.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump has removed Sudan from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism, unblocking economic aid and investment.
Announcing the normalisation, Mr Trump said "at least five more" Arab states wanted a peace deal with Israel.

Well, it sounds like Trump has been doing great in foreign policy after all. Who else managed to convince as many Arab League countries as he did? It gotta be a record, still, he didn't get a Nobel Prize for it.

Libya rivals sign ceasefire deal in Geneva

Libya's warring factions have signed an agreement on a permanent ceasefire, after five days of talks in Geneva.
The deal between military leaders from Libya's government, and those from opposition forces lead by General Khalifa Haftar, was brokered by the UN.
Its Libya envoy Stephanie Williams called the agreement "a crucial sign of hope for the Libyan people".
Libya has been riven by violence since Col Muammar Gaddafi was deposed by Nato-backed forces in 2011.

Sadly, a cease fire isn't as good as a peace treaty so anything could change in the midterm. Especially if Russia and Turkey are involved there. Who wouldn't fight for its oil reserves?

Chile's choice: Out with the old, in with the new?

In just 12 months, Chile went from being an "oasis of stability", as President Sebastián Piñera described it, to a country about to tear up its old constitution and re-write the rules.
On Sunday, Chileans will be asked two questions:

• Do you want a new constitution?
  
• What kind of body do you want to draw it up? (Voters will choose between a so-called Mixed Convention, with 50% of members from Congress and the other half elected by voters, and one 100% elected by popular vote)
  

The expectation is that the majority will say "yes" to creating something new.

One of the problems here is that the communist parties in Chile have been trying to reach as many workers as they can to make them vote for a new constitution and choose all of the representatives partaking in crafting it. If they succeed, being a businessman in Chile won't be the same ever again. Recall how much communists love to duplicate institutions and increase taxes, claiming they'll benefit the masses, even if the leader's pockets grow larger and larger at the same time.
