Windows 10 IS Unsafe! - kyonides - 01-15-2020

Beware, Windows 10 Users For Your Cyber Safety is in Danger!
Shocked

The US National Security Agency (NSA) has discovered a major flaw in Windows 10 that could have been used by hackers to create malicious software that looked legitimate.

That's how the following article begins its explanation on what you might have missed since it was launched. Confused

https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-51106356

It also says the issue was revealed during an NSA press conference. Happy with a sweat Brian Krebs, some security expert, said it's "extraordinarily scary". It has to do with a critical DLL that could be easily breached or fooled by hackers.

So if you see you a pending patch in Windows Update, you surely know what to do about it. Happy with a sweat

Wasn't quite aware of that, but now I am aware. Microsoft's been slacking in the vulnerability finding department.

Wait. So is it update or don't update? Does the patch have the fix, or the fake?

If you download it from MS trusted sources like Windows Update, you should apply it at once. Sadly, nobody has told us when it will be available for all of us... Confused

On another board somebody uploaded this piece of a news article concerning Windows 7 that's been phased out since January 14th 2020.

Honestly, I can only tell you that sounds more like manipulation on behalf of MS... Sad

The following is an excerpt taken from this website: Linux Experten.com

I know, they clearly want you to start using Linux, but I wouldn't mind if any of you did. Laughing Still, you might consider some of the strange things that do happen on Windows 10... Confused

Why should you stop using Windows10?
  • Data syncing is by default enabled.
       - Browsing history and open websites.
       - Apps settings.
       - WiFi hotspot names and passwords.
  • Your device is by default tagged with a unique advertising ID.
       - Used to serve you with personalized advertisements by third-party advertisers and ad networks.
  • Cortana can collect any of your data.
       - Your keystrokes, searches and mic input.
       - Calendar data.
       - Music you listen to.
       - Credit Card information.
       - Purchases.
  • Microsoft can collect any personal data.
       - Your identity.
       - Passwords.
       - Demographics.
       - Interests and habits.
       - Usage data.
       - Contacts and relationships.
       - Location data.
       - Content like emails, instant messages, caller list, audio and video recordings.
  • Your data can be shared.
       - When downloading Windows 10, you are authorizing Microsoft to share any of above-mentioned data with any third-party, with or without your consent.

Obviously it's up to you to choose your next OS, just remember that MS might not be playing fair... Confused

To be honest, I'm surprised they didn't pull this whole stunt with Windows XP's end of support.

Hmm I'm using an outdated Windows 7 for years now, and downloaded so much stuff from sometimes very odd websites and I never had any virus or a corrupted system.
They just want to create panic to spread their spyware called Windows 10 as much as possible "for free" to maximize their collecting of personal data.

If one day Windows 7 isn't running on new hardware anymore I will switch to some Linux I think..

Same here.

And I have the excuse of my PC being old to the point that it doesn't meet the minimum requirements for W10 if somebody ask me why I haven't update to the lastest Windows yet..

Same. I only had some problems about corrupted song files, but it was only because of fl studio that sometimes didn't work well on my potato pc, but i never had virus or any problems on it.

And guess what? MS now wants to show you ads on WordPad! Shocked

https://www.linuxexperten.com/news/microsoft-introducing-ads-wordpad

Take into account Windows 10 already seems to offer you customized contents and app suggestions... Confused

Hey guys, newbie to the forum here, but I thought I might chime in on Linux. If you haven't, you should totally make a book usb with Linux on it. I would suggest Ubuntu. You'll probably be surprised at everything you can have access to for free. The boot disk will let you basically demo Ubuntu without changing your computer at all.
