Wow, this looks great! Good tilesets, RGSS3, built-in character/face generator.... Wow! I wish i didn't blow my cash on XP!

From what I gathered, it still uses RMVX's mapping system. Which I think sucks. I personally prefer the mapping techniques in RPGMaker XP. VX's mapping was made to be simplified for users No beginner/advanced options, eh?

However, it DOES let you use more tilesets... in a manner.

Like RPGMaker VX, you are limited to a predetermined TilesetA, TilesetB, TilesetC, and etc. But while RPGMaker VX has that as a limit to the number of tiles used for your game (which sucked), each individual map you create has their OWN set of TilesetA, TilesetB, TilesetC and etc. Apparently, it is a compromise. The tileset system is needed by the RMVXAce mapping system, but allowing each map to have their own set of tiles gives it RPGMaker XP's increased resource capacity.

No Actor Battlers still, eh? That means no actor/user battle animations. Didn't see one in the battlesystem screen anyway.

It looks neat, and I like the new features (and return of old ones...) but gee, I need to finish one of my XP games or VX games soon! I haven't finished even one and here's a third maker for the PC already! (I'm only counting ones that can be gotten legally outside of Japan)

But just seeing the trailer, some screenshots, some sample sprites and battlers, and the features, already inspires me to start a new game using VX Ace's new RTP! I like making my own stuff, but a new RTP is always fun to work with for some reason. And since it's in practically the exact same style as VX...a larger pool of matching resources is always nice!

This is the 5th isn't it? Or is that just for older farts like me?

  1. RM95 (barely remembered)
  2. RM2000 (really put it on the map)
  3. RM2003
  4. RMXP
  5. RMVX
  6. RMVXAce
And that's not including gaming platform versions.

The name allready suggests that it is somewhat of an updated version of the VX which I'm not to fond of. And from what I can see it is exactly that.
It does include some interesting features and doesn't look that bad, but...meh...
Also, I see problems for VX and VXace users, getting confused, mixing them up and scripts and recources being named wrong, people installing the wrong RTP...
I would have liked it if they made a fully new one. New name, including the best of all systems so far.
...which is probably not going to happen XD It is nice to see tough that they still continue to work on these systems. I'll definately try the demo once one is released in a language that I understand but I don't see myselt favouring this over the XP.

Looks.....absolutely bleh, meh, feh to me. Like VX with just a tiny bit of "new things". Do not want.

Why can't they just take what really works from all of the programs and make something nice?

RE: RPG Maker VX Ace, new RPG Maker. - Taylor - 11-24-2011

Bleh, yeah if it's using VX's mapping system it's a no-go for me. And from what DerVVulf also said... I... don't get it. Individual tileset sets per map? That sounds confusing... Going by this though it seems to be pretty much like the old system, only with tile chunks instead of single files + autotiles. Which is actually a really good idea.

But yeah VX's mapping system is broken. I don't want to be forced to pretty much use autotiles, but the big issue the single layer. It's a pain should you need to fix something in the ... "layer" underneath, having to erase what you did.

Don't we pretty much have all these features anyway as scripts for XP and VX? The ability to set calculations in the database is kinda cool, but I think anyone willing to modify that might be already sticking their snout into the scripts that control this.

EDIT: Oh yeah. VX had sample maps too you know, so this isn't exactly a new th- wait. "Moreover, sample maps have been prepared into the sample data to reduce the time and effort required to make your game." TIME AND EFFORT IS SOMETHING YOU KINDA HAVE TO ACCEPT. what the fuck who wrote that

RE: RPG Maker VX Ace, new RPG Maker. - DerVVulfman - 11-24-2011

I'd prefer a rework of RMXP with repairs to cover the F12 fault, add faces (and not eradicate actor battlers), and add a few other touches. The whole smaller gaming area, the less-advanced-level mapping, the hardcoded resource handling (forgot that you had only one windowskin/system file or something).... Nope. Not my scene.

Winking Maybe they should look to see what WE wrote and just paste it into RGSS 4, and craft a suitable game editor to control it all.

That'd be great Very cheery
But I doubt they'll do that. Personally I'm perfectly fine with the XP as long as there are so many talented people all around the world who are willing to share their work with others for them to use.
Also, if they'd make the perfect game editor, they couldn't continue making new ones, right?
Then again, VX Ace is not really a new one but an updated one anyway, so...
