RE: What's on your mind? - Ahzoh - 02-20-2016

Well damn, the last two episodes of RWBY Volume 3 are INTENSE.
I almost dread having to wait for the 4th season.

RE: What's on your mind? - DerVVulfman - 02-21-2016

Yer killin' me here. I'm waiting for the DVD release. Oh, you should hear the commentary track by the girls of RWBY... they're hilarious.

RE: What's on your mind? - Bounty Hunter Lani - 02-21-2016

Lots of people are trying to spoil RWBY Volume 3 for me. NOT ON MY WATCH! OR MY DIGITAL CLOCK!  Shocked

Hehe, anyway, I found some old songs that I used to listen to via Pandora... The songs are constantly taken off of Youtube due to copyright, so that's why I couldn't find them before! (And I'm not just gonna go ahead and download from a suspicious site, that'd be wrong! And crazy! I'm not gonna hurt this lappytop! It's my baby! Parentheses are fun!)
Now I have more music to listen to while working on my game stuff!  Grinning

I keep getting WHACKED with copyright on my Youtube videos as well, and I haven't uploaded in a whole month, just in case something happened to one of my videos... But nothing happened this time, so I can finally start uploading again. Youtube needs to fix their copyright system pronto, it's getting scary with all of these "This video is banned worldwide due to ____ being in your video!"  Confused
STOP BANNING MY VIDEOS, YOUTUBE!  Sarcasm Sarcasm Sarcasm

RE: What's on your mind? - Ahzoh - 02-21-2016

I didn't spoil anything about RWBY, I merely said the final two episodes were intense, which is vague enough to not tell you much of anything.

RE: What's on your mind? - Bounty Hunter Lani - 02-21-2016

I didn't say you spoiled anything, I'm just saying people are trying to spoil it for me.  There was no accusation towards you  Confused

RE: What's on your mind? - DerVVulfman - 02-21-2016

Unfortunately, music and game content is copyrighted. You won't find a single Prince song on YouTube. Go ahead and try... he had them all pulled because it is an act of copyright infringement as any such posts would be free while he is still getting money for his work.

By all rights, Squeenix could pull every single video that Cynical has posted because they own Kingdom Hearts for infringement of their product... IF they so choose. You might not like it, but unless you own every single part of the content, any of your videos and any Lets Play video can be pulled. Hell, anyone could FLAG them because of such. Just remember... React.

Be careful.

RE: What's on your mind? - Bounty Hunter Lani - 02-21-2016

I think it's about time for a rant.  Tongue sticking out

Fair Use protects reviewers from copyright, as long as they give proper credit. I don't know a single reviewer who hasn't said proper credits, so the fact they can get a strike for not even using any FOOTAGE of the game itself is ridiculous and broken. Seriously, you can't even talk about some Nintendo games, or they take your video down. HOW CAN THEY TAKE A VIDEO DOWN IF YOU'RE JUST TALKING ABOUT IT?!  Ticked off

And companies don't own your footage of a game, nor are you stealing from them if you play a game with their music in it. Yet videos are BANNED for having a song from a game they're doing a Let's Play of. You're doing the work for the gameplay, not them, so why are they getting paid for what YOU do? Not to mention, a lot of companies said they never wanted Youtube to do that anyway, because they WANT people to play their games for free publicity. Nintendo hasn't gotten there yet, and want 60% of a Youtuber's profit on any Nintendo videos.
FOR WHAT?! THEY DIDN'T MAKE THE VIDEO! AND I SURE AS HECK HAVE THE RIGHTS TO TALK ABOUT THE THING!

And public domain songs from 200+ years ago are copyrighted via Youtube's broken system as well! PEOPLES' VIDEOS ARE TAKEN DOWN FOR PUBLIC DOMAIN SONGS OF OLD! NOBODY OWNS THEM!
So yeah, Youtube's system is broken, and companies have no rights to taken down peoples' original content, especially reviewers, who SHOULD be protected via Fair Use. But nope. Youtube doesn't agree.
And if I get a video taken down because I played someone's game, that's just idiocy.  And they have no rights to the content inside, since I'm not selling the game itself. I'm playing it.  Angry
People use reviewers to decide if they want a game or not. If you don't even let somebody review it in the first place... well, that explains Nintendo's poor sales in the past, and the bad publicity with copyright is what's likely keeping their system from being CLOSE to PS4/XBOX1 sales. GROW UP, NINTENDO. PEOPLE JUST WANNA PLAY YOSHI'S ISLAND AND TALK ABOUT IT, JEEZ!  IS IT SO BAD FOR PEOPLE TO SAY IF THEY LIKE OR DISLIKE YOUR GAME, OR EVEN PLAY IT FOR FUN?!  Sarcasm

Anyway, enough of my ranting.  Blushing + Cheery

I'm glad Square has bee pretty cool with copyright, and don't take videos down, unless it's a "Secret ending" to one of their new games. I'll definitely be putting their videos on Youtube much more in the future  Happy
Bandai Namco has "Different" rules, where you can't monetize a video if you use their footage/music, and they get all monetization if you do monetize. That's... kinda fine, because it's acknowledging that if you're not making any money, they don't make any money from it either. However, it's still taking money from people who make a living via gaming.  Confused
I don't monetize yet, so they and I are on good terms  Blushing + Cheery

RE: What's on your mind? - Ahzoh - 02-21-2016

Well, to be fair, it is my understanding that companies fear that someone would watch someone play the entire game, experiencing enjoyment vicariously, rather than playing the game themselves.
Whether that is, in fact, a common occurrence as they fear it is another question.

RE: What's on your mind? - DerVVulfman - 02-21-2016

And you're missing the point. Companies do own likenesses and content. You say they didn't make the video, but it has has nothing to do with footage of how you are playing a game. It does have to do with the visual content, the characters, graphics and the music in question.

If someone posts a video playing 'Eyes on Me' in the background, Square has full rights to pull the video as it is content from Final Fantasy VIII. If you were playing it in the background to one of your Lani Dies a Lot videos, they very well could and have full legal right to ask for payment for its use.

Why wouldn't these companies expect to be paid for what you do? Because you're doing it with their copyrighted material that they do own. They are the ones that own the copyright for the song. They own the rights to the graphics or music of a game you are playing. And it makes no difference if you are doing it for free or otherwise. The only company that I saw relishing in fan videos made with their system was Microsoft/Bungie with Red Vs Blue.

And there have been fan-games that were shut down because the companies saw them as infringements. And insofar as one fan-game I know that was cancelled.. SquareEnix wasn't so cool in that respect. Having a youtube video pulled is no different.

And for some time, many reviewers in gaming magazines give notice to the companies in question. They're paid and protected by their magazine to do so.

Broken as you say the system is, you have to accept that copyrighted material in a video makes it 100% prone to being pulled, unless you own the rights to all the content itself.

I was going to rant more, give more facts that'd blow this statement out of the water, but instead, I'll just leave.
The naivete is striking me, and is hitting me in a personal place that you don't want to be hitting, Dervy-kun.
I am done with this topic.

When I leave here, I'm going to go make myself some Overstuffed Ravioli, because I'm hungry. After I eat, I'm going to edit a video. Then I'll start uploading said video. And I will not have any copyright troubles with said video, because I have the rights to it. Not the company.

Ravioli time.
