RE: What's on your mind? - Samven - 11-29-2015

Is it just me, or does DerVVulfy kinda look like he should be the badass, grizzled old mentor to some plucky young RPG hero?

Finally left my job after many long months of harassment and now I'm shooting to get inside a proper games development course with teachers and code learning and art schooling and stuff. 83 so excite much hype

I'm currently watching Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete for the review podcast me and my mates do and it is almost physically painful for me to watch. : D shootmenow Not to diss anyone who likes it, though. If you do, great, but it's far, far too goofy for me.

Welcome back!  Blushing + Cheery

Personally, I believe that Advent Children tends to be more for the FFVII fans than anything. If you didn't like the characters of VII, or you aren't fangirling over Cloud or watching Tifa's amigos, then it tends to be a "Decent" movie based on Vidya game and semi-anime logic.
Personally, Yuffie was the best part of the movie for me, as she was with FFVII itself (She made the game for me), and she didn't get much of a part in the movie!  Sad
Y U HATE YUFFIE, SQUARE?!  Sad Sad Sad Sad

At least they slapped her into future titles in somewhat important roles!  Happy with a sweat
There are some rare cases of people that say "Advent Children is what brought me into the Final Fantasy series!" though, so there's that, I guess.  Laughing

Oh, and good luck with your development schooling stuffs!! I hope they teach you lotsa neat thingies   Grinning

Anyway, I've been hard at work all day long for my game's first continental map, as well as changing enemy and ally stats around to be more fitting. I then realized I made a skill's power 400 instead of 40 after taking 6,800 DAMAGE ON THE WHOLE PARTY!!!
(I WAS GONNA WIN, TOO!!!)

Well, at least I fixed it...  Confused

Also, I can't seem to figure out how my friend managed to spend 1,200 dollars on amiibos for games they don't even have yet...
Huh...
That coulda bought them the new computer they need so badly!!!
Good luck to them, I guess!  Tongue sticking out

I dunno, because I did my best to pay attention to the story of VII and, somehow, understanding it makes the movie make less sense.

The characters all suffer monumental rewrites. Cloud went from being a well-written deconstruction of the heroic archetype to being a whiny douchebag still brooding over Aeris (who has lost all of her spunk and pluck and been turned into Generic Doe-Eyed Anime Love Interest #473... whatever happened to the badass in the pink dress who threatened to rip off a mafia's don's balls?), Tifa does nothing except pine for her man, and Barret is an objectively terrible father to Marlene throughout the movie, abandoning her to chase after oil off-screen and only coming back at the end for the big showdown... to say nothing of the Silver-Haired Men, whose entire plan revolves finding Jenova out of the belief that she will tell them what to do while also trying to kickstart a Reunion to get back at the Planet for her previous defeat. If this sounds a mite inconsistent, it's only because it is. And they're all calling her "Mother", despite the fact that Sephiroth grew out of his Oedipal dark messiah phase and tried to become a god for gits and shiggles.

I would actually argue that the movie is not for fans of FFVII but, rather, for that crazy minority of the fandom that writes porny slash fiction and understands only the most superficial elements of the story without having any respect for how they link together and serve as a thorough examination of all the RPG archetypes that had been taken for granted up until VII first came out.

I don't like VII all that much as a game, since I don't enjoy the ATB system and I find Sephiroth to be a legendarily dull antagonist, but I have enough respect for what it was trying to that I have made a genuine effort to understand it. Which is more than I can say for the poor sods who wrote this awful thing.

[And thank you! I'm really hoping that I can get in properly! ^_^]

Plot twist: When something happens to a certain character in the Forgotten Capital... it was Jenova who did it.  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

And Kadaj? More like JENOVA!  Winking

Anyway...
Dervy-kun does look awesome. I need him to teach me how to be so cool. Confused
(And how to use a sword, too)

I'm going to have the 1.0 version of my first continental map hopefully today or tomorrow. I may make changes in the future, so that's why it's a 1.0. I also might make alternate versions of it as well  Grinning
Making a proper map sure can be rough, especially with people around that know lots of geography stuff  Sweat

Oh yeah, and the boss that did 6,800 damage to my whole party? I fixed their skill's power, and I actually won the fight the next time I faced them. I think I can use the boss as a basis for future bosses, since I won at level 50  Laughing + Tongue sticking out

And finally... there are dark forces in my game... More details on THAT when I do my game update  Winking

Sold em. Laughing Might have a picture of em somewhere.

EDIT: Oh, wow. I just realized the sword in the pic has the same length and weight as a Huey Propellor blade machette that JayRay discussed just a few days ago in Lani's Common Sense Corner.

... Wait a minute, that makes no sense.

Jenova is supposed to be dead. That's why the three Silver-Haired Men are trying to resurrect her. Except their process of doing so will actually resurrect Sephiroth. Rufus even tells Cloud, "Hey, man, these three are like the larval forms of Sephiroth. I think he's trying to come back to life." So, by your logic, Jenova was controlling them all along except for the fact that the creators have said Sephiroth was in control of her the whole time, not the other way around, which would mean that Jenova was controlling them on behalf of Sephiroth so that he could bring himself back to life... except the three seem more concerned with reviving Jenova and Kadaj even seems jealous of Sephiroth and how he's at the centre of Jenova's attention but that would seem to imply that she's still an independent thinking being and- OH BOLLOCKS TO IT, I CAN'T HANDLE THIS ANYMORE, THIS MOVIE IS UTTERLY BUTTERLY BONKERS I've seen episodes of RWBY that had more narrative coherence than this drivel!

If anyone needs me, I'll be going on an all-Berserk detox to purge myself of the stupid.

Oh, Samven... Take a swig of water and enjoy the magnificence of Final Fantasy VII and its sequel movie, Advent Children!
...........  Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Anyway, I'm super glad that I was able to finish my first continental map. I'm hoping for some criticism of it, with changes I could possibly make, etc.
I can finally put it lower on my list of things to do, and get other things back on track. I'm in perfect schedule with my video uploads, and in a week or two, I may start getting ahead! That means more time to work on other things again  Happy

I might start eventing the beginning of my game, since I haven't done that much... I may even put out a small demo if I can get things looking goooood  Winking
That won't be for a long while, but hey. Who knows  Grinning

RE: What's on your mind? - DerVVulfman - 12-01-2015

Actually, the lame piano rift music for Tifa's fight in Aerie's Churchyard kinda killed it for me. But Rufus's statement (on the other side of the door) "Okay, you're still a badass. I get it..." Or something like that was fun.

I hate court. I hate having to wake up and be in a courtroom from 8:30pm while the judge doesn't show for at least a half an hour later. I hate having to wait from one docket to another... endure numerous pauses.... and (gasp) Jury Selections that take an hour that end with a recess at (OMG) 2:30(?). And I hate having to return from recess to find the case that I was waiting to be a witness was still 'next' on the list, but apparently LAST on the list.

Oh, and I hate courthouses that 'CLOSE' their cafeteria when you're hungry, and thick fog when you're finally driving home at 5pm.

................ that's on my mind.

I think I'd prefer a stiff drink and a second run-through of an RPG that actually made coherent sense. Like Digital Devil Saga.

And when a game whose first boss is an armless pyrokinetic zebra demon and makes more sense than your movie, it's really time to go back to the drawing board.

RE: What's on your mind? - Bounty Hunter Lani - 12-01-2015

What's on my mind?
WHAT'S ON MY MIND?!?!

Okay, I'll tell ya!  Cheery

I got asked to make some posts for a wrestling news site's Facebook page to help garner interest for their site and page via discussions I start with my posts.
They asked me to do so after I made sure to let my opinions and thoughts be known very often on their page, and people kept replying directly to me.
My first two posts got a lot of attention, and they've been happy with it so far. I'm kinda nervous about the gig though, because I've never had to do this on a big scale like that before, and I don't wanna mess anything up for them  Sad

I do run two smaller pages at about 500-550 likes, so I guess I've had a couple years of practice but it's still something that I've never had to do. I'm always worried I'll overlap someone's post, since there are actually about 8 admins already on the page (I'm the 9th) so I'll keep trying to communicate with the one who asked me to join up, to better time things. Ultimately, this may either work out well for me, or I can screw up big and become a black sheep to them.  Confused

Or maybe I'm being a little too worried, and everything will be alright?  Happy with a sweat Happy with a sweat

....I'm not happy with my mouse double-clicking. I need a new mouse and headphones with a volume knob thingy... I hate using 5-year-old stuff that's breaking, and cheap headphones that break apart when you touch them  Confused

Ahh yes, and I just got a new door put in today! I got awoken quite early this morning by some gentlemen working on the neighbor's door, with lots and LOTS of noise, so I didn't get my sleepies very well. Then they installed my door, and it looks super nice! Fresh! Cleeean!  Grinning
I could really use a nap now though  Sarcasm + Confused
